Stranger Things Season 5 Launch – Sydney Harbour
Large-Scale Projection & Mesh Integration Across an Iconic Skyline

When Stranger Things took over Sydney Harbour, the city didn’t just light up – it transformed.
TDC delivered the projection, media control and immersive holographic infrastructure behind the activation.
From holographic mesh integration to high-output laser projection, the system was engineered to deliver clarity, scale and environmental resilience across one of Australia’s most recognisable waterfront locations.
Projection Architecture at Scale
The installation incorporated:
- 32K Barco UDX4K32 laser projectors
- Custom lens configurations for short-throw precision
- gostMESH holographic mesh
Four 32K laser units delivered the luminance required to compete with ambient harbour conditions, while precision lensing ensured accurate mapping across architectural surfaces.
Mesh & Visual Surface Integration
TDC provided the custom gostMESH holographic surface and which was integrated to support layered visual depth and content illusion.
The combination of projection and mesh enabled controlled translucency and spatial depth – critical in creating the “holographic” effect central to the activation concept.

Engineered for Environment
Delivering projection across an exposed harbour location requires more than brightness.
Wind, moisture, ambient light and sightline variability all influence deployment strategy.
TDC engineered:
- TW-Lite Tower projection structures for environmental protection
- Managed signal distribution and playback
- Environmental-ready power distribution
When the city turns red and the skyline bends into something strange, the infrastructure behind the illusion has to be invisible, stable and repeatable.

The Result
A harbour-wide activation that transformed Sydney’s most recognisable backdrop into a cinematic moment – delivered through structured projection architecture and disciplined on-site execution.
